Activities near holiday home
Eat very well (and copiously) at La Forge the family run restaurant in Savignac Ledrier (1.5 km) or for gourmet dining as well as barbecue nights try the 17th century Domaine d'Essendieras (10km).
Follow one of the many safe signposted walks around the house. Turn left coming out of Le Verger and walk up to the belvedere look out called Le Mont des Ages where there is a tiny hilltop chapel (2 km). It is not a steep walk but because you are already on a plateau: you are now in the highest point in the Dordogne (410 m) !
See how iron used to be made in a fascinating new tour at the Forge of Savignac, France's last working iron forge, once owned by the inhabitants of the chateau. It is also a beautiful spot for a picnic.
Don't miss an afternoon boating, swimming and sunbathing at Rouffiac Lake ( 12km) or try the water ski facilities. There is also a excellent restaurant here with home made produce cooked by the owners. A MUST is canoeing ( or drifting) the 12 or 25 Km route downstream Cateau de Loche, via St Leon de Vezere to Les Eyzies. Do not miss the world famous ancient art caves at Lascaux (30 min)
The Office de Tourisme in Payzac or Lanouaille will tell you about farm visits in summer. Walk the well signposted and very safe Auvezere River circuit. Make sure you spend a day canoeing down the spectacular Vezere river from Le Chateau de Loches to Ls Eyzies (6, 12 or 24 kms) with a stop off for lunch or a picnic in one of the officially listed 'most beautiful villages of France' at St Leon de Vezere.
